Rockwell Collins announces supplemental type certification for Boeing Business Jet
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (April 26, 2005) - Rockwell Collins announced that its Tailwind 550 satellite television system has received U.S. Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for installation on a Boeing Business Jet (BBJ). The installation was completed
by Jet Aviation in Basel, Switzerland.
“This certification allows us to deliver global television solutions for current and potential BBJ customers,” said Tim Rayl,
senior director, Airshow Systems for Rockwell Collins. “With the STC, we are also now able to apply for Parts Manufacturing
Authority (PMA) and offer the most comprehensive service and support program for the Tailwind 550.”
Tailwind 550 is a multi-regional satellite TV system that brings more than 450 television channels to the aircraft when flying
in the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Tailwind 550 is the only fuselage-mounted, three-region system on the market.
Its features include a lightweight, high-performance antenna that ensures clear reception on the ground and during virtually
all phases of flight. Tailwind 550 is currently FAA certified for installation on the following aircraft: B737-100/-200/-200C/-300/-400/-500/-600/-700(BBJ)/-700C/-800/-900
and the B747-100/-200/SP.
